Powering change through Diversity & Inclusion.

Policy and Strategies

Our D&I mission is simple: to make solar inclusive. To do so, we collaboratively work around
three pillars: the workforce, the workplace, and the marketplace/industry.

Policy and Strategies: Workforce

Workforce

  • We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer and a welcoming place for everyone without consideration of race, color, religion, ethnicity, citizenship, political activity or affiliation, marital status, age, national origin, ancestry, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, sex or gender, or any other basis protected by law.
  • We therefore do our best to attract, develop, advance and retain the best diverse talent.
  • We specifically focus on hiring underrepresented groups across all functions and managerial levels.
Policy and Strategies: Workplace

Workplace

  • We strive to create an open and inclusive culture where everyone’s unique backgrounds, thoughts, experiences and abilities are welcomed, valued, respected and celebrated.
  • With the sponsorship of our executives, we leverage our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to create and sustain workplaces where everyone belong.
  • We utilize the results of internal surveys to better identify and address any D&I concerns and improve Sunrun’s processes.
Policy and Strategies: Marketplace

Marketplace

  • We plan to continue driving profitable growth by making solar and batteries more accessible to all, including people from all different walks of life and low-income families.
  • On July 18 2019, for instance, Sunrun announced that we will install solar and batteries on 500 low-income housing units in Oakland, which will help offset the power generated from a retiring jet-fuel power plant in Jack London Square.

Diversity Statement

Making solar inclusive makes Sunrun unique in the U.S. workforce, workplace and marketplace. It drives our ability to attract, develop, advance and retain the best diverse talent, to create a fair and inclusive workplace where all of our employees belong, and to provide clean, accessible and affordable solar and storage solutions to our diverse customers and the communities we serve.

Diversity Statement

A Culture of Inclusion and Belonging

Sunrun is striving to create and sustain inclusive workplaces for all Sunrunners. Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are a great way to connect people across Sunrun, to share stories, resources, experiences and to support the business.

A Culture of Inclusion and Belonging

Pay parity: a
key milestone
for Sunrun

At Sunrun, we believe achieving pay parity is a significant step toward gender equality in the workplace. Sunrun became the first national solar company to achieve this milestone after committing to The White House Equal Pay Pledge in 2016 under the Obama Administration. In 2018, Sunrun achieved 100% pay parity for its employees, regardless of gender, who perform similar work in similar locations across the United States.

Sunrun achieved its pay parity goal by committing to key principles:

  • Completing a comprehensive annual review of compensation practices across the business with the help of an outside law firm.
  • Voluntarily adopting a policy prohibiting inquiries into a candidate’s salary history.
  • Providing equal parental leave for both male and female employees.

On April 1, 2019, Sunrun took the California Equal Pay Pledge developed as part of the partnership between the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls and the Office of California First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom.

Sunrun’s commitment ensures that not just women, but all employees are being compensated fairly within their organization, creating a more inclusive and equitable work environment for everyone.

D&I Governance

In addition to appointing a Director of Diversity & Inclusion in 2019, Sunrun launched its first integrated Diversity & Inclusion Committee comprising of Sunrun leaders from core functions and business units. Held on a monthly basis, these meetings aim to foster an integrated process of change across Sunrun and strong collaborations to successfully advance D&I in our branches and the diverse communities we serve. In addition to this committee, a Diversity Executive Council gathers our executives on a quarterly basis to show accountability and track our progress.

Strategic D&I
Partners

Catalyst Global Supporter Community Sunrun is the first solar company to join the Catalyst Global Supporter Community. As a part of this partnership, Sunrunners have access to an expansive collection of webinars, articles, blogs and other resources through their website.

Diversity Best Practices In 2019, Sunrun was the first solar company to join Diversity Best Practices (DBP), the preeminent organization for mid to large size organizational diversity thought leaders.Through this partnership, Sunrun provides resources to further the D&I education of all Sunrunners.
