· 2Landmark clean energy bills pass House and Senate, expected to be signed into law
TRENTON, April 12, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - Sunrun, the nation’s largest residential solar, storage, and energy services company with a significant presence in New Jersey, along with state and national solar advocates, today applauded lawmakers who voted to advance New Jersey’s clean energy economy. Assembly bill A3723 and Senate S2314 companion bill was passed the Assembly and Senate. This legislation will maintain and grow the more than 7,000 solar jobs in New Jersey and help extend the cost-saving benefits of solar to more families, communities and businesses.
“With this vote, lawmakers have reinforced New Jersey’s position as a solar leader,” said Anne Hoskins, Chief Policy Officer of Sunrun. “New Jersey is paving the way for a future where citizens can create, store, and share solar power with their neighbors and make our energy system more affordable, clean, and reliable for the whole community.”
This week, Sunrun released a report, Affordable, Clean, Reliable Energy: A Better System Created by the People, for the People, which details the trends that are converging nationwide to develop a better energy system that puts people at the center of energy production and consumption.
This legislation was broadly supported by New Jersey’s solar community. Additionally, nearly fifty solar companies and industry associations sent a letter to Governor Murphy and Senate and General Assembly leaders, strongly recommending they pass and sign this legislation into law.
Sunrun New Jersey Branch Manager John Doherty, who helped advocate for the legislation, added, “This vote allows thousands of New Jersey solar workers like me to keep doing what we love - helping people save money while protecting our environment in the process. I look forward to seeing Governor Murphy sign this bill into law.”
The legislation will stabilize the solar market through 2021, close the current solar renewable energy credit program in an orderly way, adjust the cost of the Solar Alternative Compliance Payment to reduce impact on consumers’ rates, and set in motion a process for considering the next generation of solar incentives in the Garden State. The bill also increases the overall Renewable Portfolio Standard to 50% by 2030.
