Leading Residential Solar Company Donates
Solar Car Kits to KIPP Public Charter Schools with Impact4Good
FRANCISCO – February 29, 2016 – Sunrun
(Nasdaq: RUN) the largest dedicated residential solar company in the United
States, has partnered with Impact4Good and KIPP to support Science, Technology, Engineering
and Mathematics (STEM) education in California schools. Impact4Good plans and
facilitates teambuilding activities focused on community giving and KIPP is a
non-profit network of college-preparatory public charter elementary, middle and
high schools. As part of the partnership, Sunrun employees built and donated solar
car kits for classroom instruction at KIPP schools serving students from
low-income communities in the Bay Area, Los Angeles and San Diego.
“STEM education is a critical component of our
curriculum,” said Angella Martinez, Chief Academic Officer for KIPP LA Schools.
“Solar car kits are a fun way to get students excited about technology and
sustainable energy. We’re glad Sunrun shares our vision to motivate more
students to pursue STEM careers.”
The kits provide an engaging way for students
to learn about energy conservation, innovation and alternative methods of
transportation. Sunrun employees came together during the company’s Ascent
Sales Conference in February to build more than 300 kits, which include all the
materials students need to construct their own solar cars. Sunrun employees
also included “STEM messages of encouragement” to motivate students to pursue
careers in science and technology.
“Sunrun employees are passionate about creating
a planet run by the sun and inspiring new renewable energy advocates,” said
Chad Herring, vice president of human resources at Sunrun. “With more solar
supporters we can move faster toward a cleaner, more reliable electric grid.
We’re happy students in California, Sunrun’s largest market and a state with a
bright future for solar, will have the opportunity to learn about renewables
with the solar car kits.”
