When will my battery power my home or share with the grid for this program?
Your battery will send energy to your home and (when available) share to the local grid when demand is highest on up to 65 days in the 2025-2026 Performance Season. This will happen between 12PM-9PM for up to 3 hours, when Grid Events are called. On all other days, your battery will continue its default settings.
Your battery system will participate in Grid Events during the Summer and Winter seasons, according to the following schedule:
2025-2026 Performance Season | Date Range | Time Range for Grid Events | Number of Grid Events Per Season | Duration of Grid Events |
Summer | June 1 - September 30 | 12:00PM - 9:00PM | 30-60 | Up to 3 hours |
Winter | November 1 - March 31 | 12:00PM - 9:00PM | 1-5 | Up to 3 hours |
Can I still use my battery system for backup power if there’s an outage?
Yes. On most days, your battery will keep all stored power for backup. On the days of high demand when you use or share stored power, your home battery will always reserve at least 20% capacity for backup. In addition, Sunrun watches storms closely and has set up a weather readiness setting integrated into this program. If there is an upcoming outage or storm we can track, your battery will retain its power to prepare. And of course, in the event of a power outage, your battery will not send any energy to the grid.
Can I opt out after I’ve signed up for this program?
Yes, you can opt out any time by emailing Sunrun’s Grid Services team at grid@sunrun.com. If you opt out of the program, you will no longer receive the gift card rewards.
