FAQs
Who is Local PeakShift Power available to?
Local PeakShift Power is available to select qualifying Sunrun solar & battery customers in PG&E’s service territory. Sunrun will notify you via email if you are eligible and enrolled.
When and how will I receive my $150/battery reward?
If your battery system has been successfully enrolled for the entire PeakShift season, you will receive an email from Sunrun with instructions to redeem your reward in November 2025.
What happens if there’s an upcoming storm or predicted outage?
Your battery system will not send any energy to the grid during an outage. Storm Mode (an automatic Sunrun setting for LG and SolarEdge batteries) or Storm Watch (if enabled in the Tesla app for Powerwall) will keep you prepared for storms.
How does this program differ from how my battery behaves normally?
Different types of home batteries (including Tesla, SolarEdge, and LG) behave slightly differently.
LG and SolarEdge backup batteries across California are pre-programmed to maximize utility bill savings for part or all of the year. This is possible by charging and discharging energy in accordance with your residential electric rate, while preserving 20% during discharge for backup power. This allows battery customers to use and export stored energy when demand is high instead of paying high prices for an equivalent amount of electricity from the grid. In Local PeakShift Power, your battery system will work in the same fundamental way when triggered to discharge energy because of high demand on the grid (up to 100 hours this year). This means it will send power to your home first and then to the grid if energy is available beyond what your home uses at any given time within the event window.
*Your LG or SolarEdge battery will maintain a 20% backup reserve and will not discharge any energy to the grid in an outage.
*Powerwalls enrolled in Local PeakShift Power will maintain a default backup reserve of 20% during events. On event days your battery will send energy to satisfy your home’s energy load first and then export any excess energy (when available) to the grid until reaching your backup reserve percentage. On non-event days, your Powerwall will resume your normal settings. In the event of an outage, your battery will not send any energy to the grid.
