Frequently Asked Questions

With a solar power purchase agreement, or PPA, you pay for the power, not for the panels. The amount you pay is based on a per kilowatt-hour (kWh) rate for the electricity produced by your solar panels, and is usually lower than what the local utility charges for electricity.

With our prepaid lease, can go solar with just one, up-front payment. Plus, it includes savings you might get from the federal solar tax credit and other solar incentives. Not monthly bills or mounds of paperwork, just pure solar savings.

When you choose our prepaid lease plan, we’ll also actively monitor and maintain your solar panels over the life of your agreement, so all you have to do is enjoy worry-free solar savings.

Figuring out if your home is good for solar relies on a number of factors, like where your house is located, the angle of your roof, roof shading, and how old your home is. In order to understand if your home if a good candidate for solar, get in touch with one of our Solar Advisors. They’ll run a personalized analysis of your home with our proprietary solar design technology, BrightPath™. We’ll only recommend solar if it’s the right fit for your home energy needs and profile.

Every household requires a different number of panels based on how much energy it uses, the climate in your area, and how much direct sunlight hits your roof (to read up more on these factors, click here).

During your free consultation, we’ll figure out how much energy a system will need to produce in order to power your home.

When you sign up for a free quote, our in-house Solar Advisors will work with you to figure out how much you can expect to save. This relies on factors like your utility,  how much electricity you use and how much sunlight your home gets. We’ll only recommend solar if it’s the right fit for your home energy needs and profile

All of our solar equipment is backed by robust warranties. When you choose our prepaid lease plan, your solar system will also come with 24/7 monitoring and maintenance. So if it breaks, we’ll fix it — free of charge. Learn more about our Comprehensive Home Solar System Support here.

Once you’re approved for a solar installation, your home will undergo a site assessment and an expert solar technician will visit your home to confirm your system design.

After that, our Solar Design Experts will make any necessary adjustments to your design and get your final approval. Once it’s approved, we’ll submit your design to the city for permitting, which can take up to eight weeks. From there, either Sunrun or one of our local certified partners will  perform your solar installation. We only partner with the top-rated solar installers , so you can rest assured knowing you’ll have the highest quality solar installation available.

When your installation is finished, the city or county will perform a final inspection on your system. Once it’s approved, it’ll be connected to the grid and we’ll submit your documents to the utility company. After your utility company grants Permission to Operate, you’re ready to start powering your home with the sun!

Solar panels can last anywhere between 25 to 30 years, sometimes more. But this doesn’t mean the panels on your roof will stop producing electricity after a couple of decades. It just means their energy production will decrease by what solar panel manufacturers consider optimal to meet the average American family’s energy needs.

With the proper care and maintenance, you can expect to receive significant solar production over the next  20 to 30 years. Our prepaid lease plan also comes with a comprehensive solar panel service guarantee that’ll keep your system in top shape for years to come.

Our prepaid lease offers customers the very best value on solar. This plan lets you pay for your solar lease in full, simplifying your solar savings. Unlike our monthly solar lease, you won’t have to pay monthly bills from Sunrun.

Our holistic home solar battery storage service, Brightbox, could help you save even more on your electricity bill by offsetting expensive electricity rates and avoid having to spend on costly generators.

As of now, Brightbox is only avialable with the installation of a new home solar panel system. See if Brightbox is available in your area.

We get it, life happens. That’s why Sunrun makes it easy to transfer your solar lease agreement and savings on to the new homeowners.

When you choose our prepaid lease, the transfer will be extra smooth since you’ve already paid for the power. Our Service Transfer Specialists handle everything from educating realtors and potential buyers to working with escrow officers, title agents, home inspectors, and anyone else who might need to know about your system or solar lease agreement. Learn more about ways to make your move as smooth as possible.

See the states where Sunrun is currently available and what solar incentives might be offered in your state. Some of the most common solar incentives include state tax credits, property tax exemptions, Solar Renewable Enery Credits (SRECs), and solar rebates from your local utility. No matter what state you live in, you’ll also be eligible for the Federal Tax Credit when you purchase your own solar system.

The great thing about our prepaid lease plan is that any savings you would get through rebates and tax credits would come to you in the form of a low, predictable up-front payment. No monthly bills or mounds of paperwork — just simple solar savings.

When you choose our prepaid lease plan, you’ll enjoy free, daily monitoring and maintenance from our experienced Monitoring Team. They oversee all Sunrun systems, so if something happens or performance dips, they’ll reach out to you ASAP to get it fixed. Learn more about our Sunrun Guarantee
