CalReady is a Sunrun Distributed Power Program (“Program”) that allows Participants to earn rewards for sharing energy from their battery system to reduce stress on the grid. CalReady+ ("Plus Program") is an expansion of the standard CalReady Program that offers additional rewards for Participants actively enrolling their home thermostats and EVs for added demand response behavior.
Eligibility Criteria and Communication
Eligibility for Sunrun battery customers to enroll in CalReady or CalReady+ is determined solely at Sunrun’s discretion. To become a Participant in the Plus Program, a qualifying Sunrun customer must first have a compatible, installed, and operational battery system (“Battery Device”). Sunrun will automatically submit an application to enroll the Battery Device in the Program which may require acceptance by the utility-appointed Program Administrator(s).
Participant must meet the following eligibility criteria and agree to do the following to become an Eligible Participant (“Eligible Participant”):
Have a Device that is installed, operational, compatible with and connected to the Sunrun platform (“Service”) located in an eligible SCE service territory and compatible with the Program design;
Have an active Sunrun Customer Agreement (“Customer Agreement”) in good standing with Sunrun, including but not limited to having no past due bills, and have a valid email address and ACH information on file with Sunrun (if applicable);
Accept these Terms and Conditions and be approved by the Program Administrator(s);
Have an active electric account with SCE in the state of CA with a compatible interconnection agreement; and
Not enroll in a conflicting energy program that would impair, in part or in whole, the Device’s ability to be eligible for in this Program, specifically any other CAISO, utility, CCA, or state program that compensates you for the same reduction in use of electricity, including energy export.
If all Eligibility Criteria are met, Eligible Participants are notified via email of their automatic enrollment for Battery Device. Participants may enroll additional equipment including qualifying thermostats and EVs (“Non-Battery Devices”), collectively “Enrolled Devices” through a separate enrollment email.
Eligibility criteria for Non-Battery Devices will be assessed and presented by the utility and any appointed Non-Battery Device Operator, including EnergyHub.
Program Term
Participant authorizes Sunrun and all Program Administrator(s) to operate their Enrolled Device(s) for one (1) year from the date of enrollment (“Program Term”). The Program Term will be terminated in the event that the Participant no longer meets the eligibility criteria above, unenrolls, or is otherwise disqualified from participation.
The Program Term is subject to continued state funding and Sunrun’s discretion to continue operating this Program during and after the Term. Sunrun reserves the right to amend these Terms, suspend or discontinue Program participation at any time during the Program Term. Participants may be automatically re-enrolled in subsequent Program Terms at Sunrun’s discretion, subject to the then-current terms and eligibility for the Program.
Enrollment and Participant Consent for Battery Device
Sunrun will automatically enroll Eligible Participants and send written notification by email and via mobile app. Unless an Eligible Participant chooses to opt out prior to the start of the Program, Sunrun hereby acknowledges Participant’s consent to become a Participant in the Program.
Enrollment for Non-Battery Device
Participants have the option to enroll eligible thermostats or electric vehicles (EV) for additional incentive. Enrollment must be completed via an embedded link in an email, or other means presented by Sunrun during the Program Term.
Unenrollment
Participants may opt out prior to the start of the Program or at any point during the Term by contacting Sunrun at grid@sunrun.com. Opting out prior to the end of the Program Term will result in no longer being able to earn the Sunrun Payment.
Battery Device Operations
Sunrun will seamlessly control and monitor the Participant’s Battery Device during the months of July through November 2026 (“Performance Season”), which may include, but is not limited to, changing the Battery Device’s mode of operation and other setpoints, to reduce stress on the grid. Sunrun may signal the Battery Device to charge and/or discharge on certain days during the Performance Season, referred to as “Grid Events.”
During a Grid Event, the stored PV energy in the Battery Device will send energy first to the home and then the grid (if extra is available), until reaching the programmed backup reserve. For this Program, 20% of overall capacity of the Battery Device will be reserved to power Participant homes for resiliency during power outages. Participant’s Battery Device will not send any power to the grid during an outage. Storm Watch (an automatic Sunrun setting for non-Tesla Powerwall and an optional setting in the Tesla app for Powerwalls) will keep Participant homes prepared for critical storms by ensuring that batteries prioritize charge and hold energy for backup use.
Grid Events can occur any day of the week between 3-10 p.m. PST. Grid Events can last anywhere from one (1) to six (6) hours and may be called on consecutive days, depending on grid conditions. There is a maximum of one hundred and forty (140) event-hours for the season. In August or September, default Battery Device export behavior may be modified to maximize earnings in the Program.
On non-Grid Event days, Battery Device will operate under default optimized settings. Sunrun may conduct up to 10 additional tests annually to confirm Battery Device functionality.
When the Program Term is complete or terminated, the Device will automatically resume pre-program modes of operation. If a Participant determines any Device deficiencies, problems, operational issues, or wants to no longer participate in the program, they must contact Sunrun at grid@sunrun.com.
Non-Battery Device Operations
Enrolled Non-Battery Devices will be operated by the Program Administrator under separate Terms and Conditions.
Sunrun Payment
Participants will earn a one-time performance payment of $150 per battery for the Plus Program associated with the Battery Device.
Participants that successfully enroll a Non-Battery Device will earn the following one-time fixed payments: $100 per thermostat and $125 per EV.
The Sunrun Payment will be available after the Performance Season has been settled and paid to Sunrun by the Program Administrator(s). Sunrun will notify Participant when the Sunrun Payment is available, with instructions for redemption.
Payments are contingent upon the continued existence of the Program. Participant must remain in good standing under their Customer Agreement, including but not limited to, having no past due bills, and having a valid email address and ACH information on file with Sunrun (if applicable) in order to receive the Sunrun Payment described above.
The Sunrun Payment may be paid via a prepaid reward card, as a Sunrun bill credit, or other payment mechanism, determined solely at Sunrun’s election. The Sunrun Payment is associated with the Enrolled Devices, not the customer, as such, whomever is the active account holder with Sunrun at the time of the Payment disbursement will receive the claim instructions or applicable bill credits.
If tax information is required, Participant agrees to provide correct and accurate information. Participant also agrees to these general Sunrun Terms and Conditions for Promotional Offers (the “Offer Terms and Conditions”).
If reward cards are used in fulfillment of the Sunrun Payment, Participant agrees to these Terms of Service for Sunrun Promotions. Additionally, the Participant’s ability to claim the Sunrun Payment expires three (3) months from the date such reward card is sent via email to the Participant for redemption.
Sunrun reserves the right to report all payments as income where required by law. Sunrun reserves the right, in its sole discretion and without prior notice, to amend, suspend or cancel the Payment, or substitute the Payment for any reason.
Privacy and Data Sharing
Participant authorizes Sunrun to: 1) collect and exchange data related to identity, opt-in or opt-out status, energy usage and/or energy production, Utility account, electric bill, and operational data about the Device (collectively, “Program Data”), solely for the purposes of determining eligibility for the Program and operating the Program; 2) review and analyze all Program Data for the purposes of improving the Program and as otherwise permitted by applicable law, and to exchange conclusions with each other and publish results based on those conclusions, provided that they treat all such Program Data in accordance with the privacy policies; 3) automatically signal Device to respond to Grid Events for this Program or for general system testing purposes; 4) send emails, text messages, pre-recorded messages and other notifications related to the Program, including about enrollment status and Program-related adjustments to the Device; 5) send emails, text messages, pre-recorded messages and other notifications related to surveys about the Program and to share responses to such surveys; 6) summarize the results of the Program in publicly-available studies, provided that any Program Data included in such studies will be anonymous such that Participant is not individually identifiable.
Participating in this program means you consent to Sunrun sharing your account and Battery Device data with Southern California Edison (SCE) and Demand Side Analytics, LLC. (the Program Administrator) during the Program Term, as needed for program administration, renewed annually (if the program is renewed). As a reminder, Sunrun will handle any personal information or data according to our privacy policy.
Disqualification
Sunrun may terminate a Participant’s involvement in the Program and their eligibility for any Sunrun Payment at any time and without liability. This may occur for any reason at Sunrun’s discretion, including if a Participant: (1) tampers or attempts to tamper with the operation of the Program; (2) provides any false information; (3) violates these Terms or applicable law; (4) fails to comply with any reasonable request related to the Program; (5) is declared ineligible for the Program; (6) no longer has an account in good standing with the Utility, or Sunrun; (7) does not maintain a continuous connection between their enrolled Battery Device and the Service; or (8) enrolls in a conflicting energy program. Disqualification from the Program will not affect a Participant's payment obligations for their Battery Device, and their Customer Agreement will remain in effect.
Existing Customer Agreement
These Terms supplement, and do not replace or modify, the existing Customer Agreement. The Customer Agreement remains in full force and effect during Participant's enrollment in the Program. To the extent these Terms are silent on any matter, the terms of the Customer Agreement shall govern. In the event of any conflict between these Terms and the Customer Agreement, the Customer Agreement shall control, except with respect to provisions specifically addressing the Program, the Sunrun Payment, and battery operations during Grid Events.
Program Termination
Sunrun’s ability to offer the Program is contingent on receiving certain approvals and acceptances from the Program Administrator. If such approvals and acceptances are withheld or withdrawn, or if the Program is declared unlawful, the Program will be terminated along with the Sunrun Payment. In the event of such termination, Sunrun will provide notice by email. Termination of the Program will not affect payment obligations for the Sunrun Device, and the Customer Agreement will remain in effect.
General Conditions
This Program is governed by the laws of the State of California without regard to its applicable principles of conflicts of law. Any failure to enforce any term of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of that provision. SUNRUN (AND EACH OF THEIR RESPECTIVE AFFILIATES, AGENTS, DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, AND EMPLOYEES) ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE OR LIABLE FOR ANY INCORRECT OR INACCURATE PROGRAM APPLICATION INFORMATION, AND ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR (I) TYPOGRAPHICAL OR OTHER ERRORS IN THE PRINTING OF THE PROGRAM MATERIALS OR THE OFFERING OR ANNOUNCEMENT OF ANY PAYMENT, (II) ANY ERROR, OMISSION, INTERRUPTION, DEFECT OR DELAY IN OPERATION OR TRANSMISSION AT ANY WEBSITE, (III) FAILURE OF ANY APPLICATION TO BE RECEIVED DUE TO TECHNICAL PROBLEMS, TELEPHONE SERVICE PROBLEMS, PRINTING ERRORS, HUMAN ERROR OR TRAFFIC CONGESTION ON THE INTERNET OR AT ANY WEBSITE, (IV) COMMUNICATIONS LINE, HARDWARE AND/OR SOFTWARE FAILURES, (V) DAMAGE TO ANY COMPUTER OR DEVICE (SOFTWARE OR HARDWARE) RESULTING FROM PARTICIPATION IN THE PROGRAM, (VI) THEFT OR DESTRUCTION OF, TAMPERING WITH, UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS TO, OR ALTERATION OF APPLICATIONS AND/OR PROGRAM APPLICATION INFORMATION, OR (VII) APPLICATIONS WHICH ARE LATE OR LOST, OR (VIII) ANY LOSS OF INCOME DUE TO DEVICE CONTROL.
Participants agree to marketing outreach related to the Program and DPPs from Sunrun via email, phone, and text, however opting out of marketing communications will not affect Program participation.
Participant acknowledges that Non-Battery Devices are operated by the utility-appointed Non-Battery Device Operator(s), which may include EnergyHub, Inc., and not by Sunrun. Sunrun has no control over and assumes no responsibility for the Non-Battery Device Operator's acts, omissions, or performance. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Participant agrees to hold harmless and release Sunrun and its affiliates, agents, directors, officers, and employees from any claims, losses, damages, liabilities, costs, or expenses arising out of the Non-Battery Device Operator's enrollment, operation, or management of any Non-Battery Device. Participant's sole remedy for any such issue is to unenroll the affected Non-Battery Device by contacting Sunrun at grid@sunrun.com.
Changes to the Terms
