PowerOn Puerto Rico Terms and Conditions (Auto-Enrolled)

Below are the full participant Terms and Conditions for Sunrun’s PowerOn Puerto Rico program, a temporary expansion of PowerOn Puerto Rico in accordance with the Energy Bureau’s Order to support emergency grid reliability this summer.

This emergency relief program will operate from July 1, 2025 to October 31, 2025. This program is overseen by LUMA/PREPA to provide incentives to reduce customer net energy load during extreme events. Your battery, along with others, will help ease strain on the electrical grid, prevent outages, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions!

1. Eligibility

Sunrun solar and battery customers who are eligible for the PowerOn Puerto Rico program will be automatically enrolled and notified by email with a link to a simple online opt out process. Eligibility is based on a number of battery characteristics, among other pre-qualification factors. In order to participate in this program you must have an active Net Energy Metering account with LUMA/PREPA that is in good standing. For more information on eligibility criteria, please contact Sunrun at grid@sunrun.com.

2. Unspecified Consent

Unless you choose to opt out, Sunrun hereby acknowledges your consent to participate in this Program. As a participant, you agree that your enrollment is voluntary and that you have read and acknowledged these Terms and Conditions.

3. Unenrollment

If you would like to opt out of the program at any point, please email grid@sunrun.com. If you opt out prior to the end of the program term, your system's export during any previous grid events will still be validated and you will receive a final gift card for your earned rewards when Sunrun sends out reward payments. Once your unenrollment is confirmed you will be unable to earn additional rewards.

4. Participation Requirements

Sunrun will submit all eligible customers who have not submitted an opt out request by June 23, 2025 to the program administrators for review and confirmation. If you received your auto enrollment notification email on or after June 23, 2025 you have two weeks from receipt of your auto enrollment notification to opt out before any changes are made to your battery behavior.

Participation in the PowerOn Puerto Rico Program does not require any additional service calls to your home or any hardware modifications to your battery system. Additionally, nothing will be required of you when the Program concludes. Any operational changes will be made by Sunrun automatically.

5. Program Term

The PowerOn Puerto Rico Program is an emergency response program, created in accordance with the Puerto Rico Energy Bureau’s Order to support emergency grid reliability this summer, which will operate from July 1, 2025 to October 31, 2025. Enrollment may extend through 2026.

After October 31, 2025, auto-enrolled participants may have the option to opt in to PowerOn Puerto Rico year-round participation, or may be automatically enrolled based on regulations.

Once the program term is complete batteries will resume normal modes of operation. Please refer to your Sunrun Customer Agreement for additional details.

6. Battery Operations

By participating in PowerOn Puerto Rico, your battery may be dispatched when all available generation resources are in use and the utility is not expected to meet forecasted energy requirements - i.e. a “grid event”. For the term of your participation, your battery system may discharge for up to 4 hours, Monday through Sunday, excluding holidays. Participants can expect approximately 50 to 75 grid events for the summer season, and upward of 125 grid events annually.

The discharged energy will power your home, and any excess energy will be exported to the grid. You’ll receive Net Energy Metering (NEM) credit toward your remaining utility bill for the excess energy you send to the grid in addition to the program payment.

Sunrun may conduct up to 10 additional tests on your battery system to confirm system functionality; you will not be compensated for the test events, but you will receive your regular net metering credits. LUMA will not have access to or control of your battery. If you determine any battery deficiency, problem, or operational issue, please contact Sunrun at grid@sunrun.com.

7. Backup Control

Your battery will automatically reserve 80% of its capacity during grid events for backup power in case of an outage. If you have a Tesla Powerwall battery, you can lower your grid event backup reserve to earn more rewards at any time in your Tesla app. If you have a SolarEdge system, you can lower your grid event backup reserve to earn more rewards at any time by emailing grid@sunrun.com.

During a grid event, the lower your grid backup reserve is set, the more energy your battery will export, and the more money you’ll earn.

You will be notified of grid events in your Sunrun mobile app (SolarEdge systems) or Tesla mobile app (Powerwall systems), and will be given the chance to opt out of individual events beforehand. SolarEdge systems will not receive push notifications - customers with SolarEdge systems must go to their Sunrun mobile app to see scheduled event notifications. Your battery system will not send any energy to the grid during an outage. Storm Mode (an automatic Sunrun setting for SolarEdge systems) or Storm Watch (if enabled in the Tesla app for Powerwall) will keep you prepared for storms

8. Reward Structure

Participants in PowerOn Puerto Rico are entitled to receive a reward payment for delivering energy to the grid during a grid event.

You’ll earn $1.00 per kWh that your battery system exports to the grid during an event.

To maximize your rewards, you can select in your Sunrun or Tesla mobile app how much energy you want to export for rewards and how much you want to reserve for backup power - or you can select to opt out of the event altogether.

9. Reward Payment

Sunrun will validate your system’s performance and will distribute payments to you at most twice a year, on a bi-annual basis. Participants will receive their payment in January 2026 for participation from July 2025 to October 2025*.

Sunrun reserves the right to report all payments as income where required by law. Sunrun will accept all funds on your behalf from the Program and distribute them after an internal review. LUMA/PREPA will not be responsible for any compensation, refunds, or other payments relating to PowerOn Puerto Rico. Sunrun reserves the right, in its sole discretion and without prior notice, to suspend or cancel the promotion, or substitute the Offer Reward for any reason. Sunrun does not have a liability to the customer to compensate them for missed events because of delays in the approval process, or technology failures.

*Participants will only earn and receive rewards for performance during their participation period. The Payment Period is estimated and subject to change.

10. Event Opt Out

Once you are successfully enrolled, your participation in specific grid events is optional. For all events that you participate in you will be compensated $1.00 per kWh exported. If you choose not to participate you will not be compensated. You can select your event preferences in your Sunrun mobile app (for SolarEdge systems) or Tesla mobile app (for Powerwall systems).

11. Privacy and Data Sharing

Participating in this program means you consent to Sunrun, Tesla, and approved third-party administrators of the program sharing your account and battery system operational data with LUMA for the term of the program renewal dates, as needed for program administration. As a reminder, Sunrun will handle any personal information or data according to our privacy policy.

12. Additional Terms

Participation in this program will not affect your service. If you have additional questions about the Program, feel free to reach out to our customer care team at Grid@Sunrun.com.

These Terms and Conditions may change from time to time; the date of last revision is identified below. Your continued enrollment in the program acknowledges changes to the Terms and Conditions which means you accept those changes, so please check back periodically for updates. You will be notified if there are material changes related to program operations or termination of this program.
